Section 1.0 - About Us

AliumBlue is a niche partnership of experienced regulated infrastructure sector specialists, providing expert advice to large infrastructure organisations in road, rail, energy, and water. Our Partners are a group of people with a common ethic and complimentary experiences, we work as a collective to offer professional services at a strategic level to support clients in better decision making. We apply and share our knowledge of strategic and regulatory planning, risk and operational management, governance and best practice with our clients. 

 

Section 2.0 - About this document

This document sets out our approach to health and safety management. Our approach is aligned with the requirements of ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational health and safety management systems — Requirements with guidance for use) and HSG65 (Managing for health and safety).

  • The Management of Health and Safety at work regulations 1999

 

Section 3.0 - Our Health and Safety Commitment

We are dedicated to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment through the following commitments:

  • Fulfilling Legal and Other Requirements: We adhere strictly to all applicable health and safety laws, regulations, and other requirements relevant to our operations.
  • Preventing Work-Related Injury and Ill Health: We implement measures to prevent injuries and illnesses related to work activities by identifying potential hazards and taking proactive steps to mitigate them.
  • Promoting Safe and Healthy Working Conditions: We are committed to creating and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions for all our Partners and Associates.
  • Eliminating Hazards and Managing Risks: Our approach includes eliminating hazards wherever possible and managing and reducing risks to acceptable levels within our business operations.
  • Ensuring Safe Access and Adequate Facilities on Client Sites: We request and ensure suitable access to safe workplaces, adequate welfare facilities, and emergency arrangements for our Partners and Associates when they are on client sites.
  • Providing Information, Training, and Equipment: We provide our Partners and Associates with sufficient information, instruction, training, and equipment to enable them to work safely and effectively.
  • Setting Health and Safety Objectives: We establish and regularly review health and safety-related objectives in key areas of our partnership to drive continuous improvement.
  • Continual Improvement: We are committed to continually improving our health and safety management system and the services we offer to our clients.

 

Section 4.0 - Health and Safety Management Approach

4.1. Leadership and Commitment

Top Management Involvement: Our top management is committed to demonstrating leadership and commitment by integrating health and safety into all organisational processes. They ensure the provision of adequate resources, setting health and safety objectives, and leading by example.

Policy Development: We have developed a comprehensive health and safety policy that is communicated to all partners and associates of our organisation. This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.

 

4.2. Planning

Risk Assessment: We conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and evaluate the risks associated with them. This proactive approach helps in mitigating risks before they lead to incidents.

Objectives and Targets: Based on the risk assessments, we set measurable health and safety objectives and targets. These are aligned with our overall business objectives and are monitored for progress.

 

4. 3. Support

Resources and Competence: We ensure that adequate resources are provided to implement and maintain our health and safety. This includes the provision of training and development programs to enhance the competence of our partnership. 

Communication and Awareness: Effective communication channels are established to ensure that health and safety information is disseminated throughout the organisation. 

 

4.4. Operation

Operational Control: Procedures and controls are implemented to manage identified risks. This includes the use of safe work practices, maintenance of equipment, and emergency preparedness.

Contractor Management: We extend our health and safety requirements to contractors, agencies and associates and ensure they comply with our standards while working on our behalf.

 

4.5. Improvement

Incident Investigation: We investigate all incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Continual Improvement: Our approach to health and safety is based on the principle of continual improvement. We regularly review and update our health and safety management policy and associated documentation to enhance its effectiveness.

 

Section 5.0 Promoting Wellbeing

We recognise that the wellbeing is an integral part to health and safety. As part of our commitment to fostering a supportive and healthy work environment, we will:

  • Work-Life Balance: Encourage flexible working arrangements to help maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.
  • Ergonomics: Ensure workspaces are ergonomically designed to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and enhance comfort.
  • Regular Breaks: Take regular breaks to rest and recharge, helping to prevent burnout and maintain productivity.

 

Section 6.0 Communication and Reporting  

We will communicate our Health and Safety policy to all Partners, Associates and Stakeholders and provide regular updates on our progress and achievements. We will maintain transparency in our actions and report on our Health and Safety performance as part of our commitment to accountability.

 

Section 7.0 Review and Update

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in regulations, best practices, and our organisational goals. We will ensure that our policy remains relevant and effective in achieving our Health and Safety commitments.

 

Section 8.0 Conclusion

By adhering to the standards which are set by ISO 45001:2018 and HSG65, we are committed to creating a safe and healthy work environment. Our structured approach to health and safety management ensures that risks are managed effectively, and continuous improvement is achieved in our health and safety performance.
